San Juan, Puerto Rico -- Yesterday, NPR reported that tomorrow, January 31st, Donald Trump’s Federal Emergency Management Agency will “officially shut off” operations in Puerto Rico despite more than 30% of the people still lacking power and thousands living without access to safe drinking water.

In response, Sierra Club Puerto Rico Director Jose Menendez released the following statement:

“Donald Trump is turning his back on Americans in their time of need. This isn’t presidential and it’s certainly not humane. It’s been more than four months since hurricanes Maria and Irma struck Puerto Rico, yet so many of us continue to live in conditions never before seen in developed countries. Tonight, Donald Trump will go before Congress and the nation and likely claim that the state of our union is strong, ignoring Americans living without clean drinking water and in the dark for more than four months. Sadly, rather than fulfilling his duties and aiding Americans in their time of need, Trump has decided instead to turn his back on the people.”
