Washington, D.C. -- Today, the House Natural Resources Committee will vote on bipartisan legislation to provide opportunities for youth and young veterans to gain important job skills in protecting our nation's public lands and shores by establishing a civilian service organization. H.R. 2987 would help reduce the maintenance backlog in our nation’s national parks
In response, Sierra Club Associate Director of the Outdoors Campaign, Jackie Ostfeld, released the following statement:
“Today, in a rare show of bipartisanship House Democrats and Republicans are coming together to advance a practical solution that will both reduce the maintenance backlog in our nation’s national parks while also building a new generation of leaders in the outdoors. The bill to create a conservation service corps to revitalize our public lands is a cost-effective solution to address the growing maintenance backlog in parks and public lands, while providing youth and veterans with valuable employment in conservation. The 21CSC is one of several important programs encouraging participation on public lands.”
