Seattle, WA -- Today, the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency announced that, rather than beginning the public comment period on the proposed Puget Sound Energy Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility in Tacoma, the Agency must first conduct a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) to analyze the project’s climate impact. This review will include an analysis of the life cycle emissions from the fuel processed at the proposed 8-million-gallon facility.
In response, Sierra Club Associate Organizing Representative Victoria Leistman released the following statement:
“This decision is a testament to the power of Washington communities who have stood together and demanded a full accounting of the impacts of this massive proposed LNG project. This is a product of the Puyallup tribe and grassroots groups raising their voices about the dangers of fracked gas. Gas is a dirty fossil fuel -- just like oil or coal -- and to avert the worst effects of climate change we cannot continue building new fossil fuel infrastructure. This facility would be a disaster for our communities and our climate, and this review is an important step towards rejecting this dirty, dangerous project once and for all.”
