Washington, DC -- In a notice to be published to the Federal Register tomorrow, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will finalize a one-year delay of a rule designed to limit methane pollution from oil and gas operations on public lands. The rule has already withstood legal attack from industry, as well as an attempted repeal in Congress.
The Trump administration’s prior delay of this commonsense rule is already being challenged in court by the Sierra Club and its partners.
Lena Moffitt, Senior Director of the Sierra Club's Our Wild America Campaign, released the following statement in response:
“Once again, Donald Trump and Ryan Zinke are showing where their priorities lie: pandering to the desires of big polluters above all else, including the health of our communities. BLM’s methane rule would help fight climate change and protect our public lands and communities. Undermining these protections is a slap in the face to the majority of Americans who support them, and to the many people who will breathe polluted air as a result. We will continue to fight to ensure that these commonsense protections remain in place.”
