WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn (R-TX) voted for and actively championed the deeply regressive congressional tax scheme, which authorizes drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge for the first time and slashes taxes for corporations and the richest Americans.
In response, Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter Reggie James released the following statement:
“Senators Cruz and Cornyn sold Texans out just to give a massive tax cut to the corporations and billionaires propping them up. Even though Cruz, Cornyn, and Donald Trump were desperate for anything they could call a legislative victory, there was no good reason to vote for a piece of legislation this awful.
“Cruz and Cornyn can call this bill whatever they’d like, but in reality, it’s an outrageous scheme that sets up the deep cuts they want to make to federal programs that protect the health and safety of all Texans. This bill hands over one of our last great wild places, the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge, to corporate polluters who want to turn the pristine region into an oil field. Rather than being a shill for their donors, Ted Cruz and John Cornyn needs to focus on representing the people of Texas.”
