Lincoln, Nebraska -- Today, the Nebraska Public Service Commission (PSC) voted to reject a motion from TransCanada, the company behind the Keystone XL pipeline, to amend their application for the controversial pipeline.
Last month, the PSC rejected TransCanada’s preferred route for the pipeline, instead granting approval for a route through the state that the company had previously called unworkable.
Ken Winston, attorney for the Sierra Club Nebraska Chapter, released the following statement in response:
“We are pleased the Commission denied TransCanada’s motion to amend their application. This should send a message to TransCanada and their investors that Nebraskans don’t want their tar sands pipeline. TransCanada should do the right thing for once and withdraw their application. If they choose to appeal, we will continue to fight the Keystone XL tar sands export pipeline until it is finally stopped.”
