LANSING, Mich. - Today, The Lansing Board of Water and Light (LBWL) announced plans to build a $500 million fracked gas plant in Delta Township. Plans for new construction have been in the works since 2015, but leads to raised bills and long term investment in fossil fuel.

In Response, Andrew Sarpolis, Organizer for Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign released the following statement:

“LBWL started moving in the right direction with an announced commitment to more renewable energy and the retirements of the Eckert and Errickson coal burning power plants, however a long term investment in fossil fuels may not be a good path to Lansing’s energy future. Renewable energy is possible and often times cheaper than fracked gas, and has led to the wave of wind and solar projects across Michigan. We are hopeful that conversations moving forward include a long term plan to move Lansing to 100% clean renewable energy.”
