Washington, DC -- Today, Mother Jones reported that Scott Pruitt has wasted $120,000 of taxpayer funds on a political political consulting firm. The funds went to Republican political consultant Matt Rhoades, Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign manager, firm Definers Corp. Pruitt’s EPA has attacked reporters who have written accurate stories about its actions and consistently offered media access only to outlets such as Fox News and Breitbart.

In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:

“What is Scott Pruitt so scared of? Everyone already knows he’s the most shameless fossil fuel hack to ever sit atop the EPA, so why is he wasting hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on secret phone booths and partisan political consultants? Pruitt has already taken the millions in contributions from corporate polluters, but now he’s wasting the taxpayers dime to advance his political career and cover his tracks. Refund the people’s money now, Scott -- I’m sure your friends in the fossil fuel world are more than pleased to keep you afloat as you try to ensure they can pollute our air and water without being held accountable.”
