San Juan, PR -- Late yesterday, Whitefish Energy, the company who landed a now canceled $300 million no-bid contract to help repair power lines in Puerto Rico, is now claiming they’re owed $83 million, and has stopped all work in the Commonwealth. A number of power lines Whitefish worked on, have since failed.

Congress is continuing to investigate the politically connected Whitefish Energy and how the two person company landed the contract despite having no experience.

More than 50% of Puerto Rico remains without power and at least 10% still do not have access to safe drinking water two months after Hurricane Maria hit.

In response, Sierra Club National Board Member and Former Commissioner of the Puerto Rico Energy Commission and Vice President of the Puerto Rico Environmental Quality Board Ramon Cruz released the following statement:

"Whitefish Energy signed a crooked contract that they then failed to execute. Whitefish owes the people of Puerto Rico, not the other way around -- and the American public deserves answers as to just how this company with possible connections to the Trump Administration got this sweetheart deal."
