San Juan, PR -- Today, Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló announced that he will request $94 billion to aid in the recovery from Hurricane Maria. More than 50% of Puerto Ricans are still without power and thousands still lack access to clean water. Thus far, Donald Trump’s Office of Management and Budget has still yet to propose a supplemental funding recovery package.

In response, Sierra Club National Board Member and Former Commissioner of the Puerto Rico Energy Commission and Vice President of the Puerto Rico Environmental Quality Board Ramon Cruz released the following statement:

“It’s been nearly two months since Hurricane Maria, and while Whitefish Energy raked in big bucks with a scandalous contract, hundreds of thousands of American citizens are still living without power and simple access to clean water. Where is the action and the urgency? The Trump Administration is failing Puerto Rico, and making matters worse by ignoring the reality of the situation on the ground. The most basic thing that should happen immediately is for Congress to not waste time and approve this funding, and for the Trump Administration to commit to helping those it represents rather than pulling resources off the island when they are desperately needed.”
