Washington, DC -- This afternoon, the House Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on the “SECURE American Energy Act.” The bill aims to expand oil and gas drilling by rolling back federal regulations and removing protections for America’s public lands and waters.
Athan Manuel, Director of the Sierra Club’s Lands Protection Program, issued the following statement in response:
“The SECURE Act reads like a fossil fuel industry wishlist. This dangerous bill removes critical safeguards for our public lands and waters, locks even more federal lands into dangerous fossil fuel development, and limits the government’s ability to protect special places that belong to all Americans.
“This bill is a reckless giveaway to oil and gas companies and takes us in exactly the wrong direction in the management of our public lands. Congress must oppose this dirty and dangerous bill and instead focus on protecting our public lands and waters for future generations.”
