Tulsa, OK -- The Oklahoma Corporation Commission ordered Citizen Energy to cut pressure and volume at an oil well near Yukon, OK on Monday following a series of earthquakes believed to be caused by Citizen’s fracking operations.
Meanwhile, a new study released this week shows that fracking is causing an increase in earthquakes in Texas.
Johnson Bridgwater, Director of the Sierra Club’s Oklahoma Chapter, released the following statement in response:
“For years, the agencies responsible for regulating fracking have refused to confirm that fracking is contributing to the increase in earthquakes we’ve been experiencing in Oklahoma, despite all evidence to the contrary. Finally, this acknowledgement that fracking is one of the causes of these earthquakes after all makes it clear that these claims have been completely disingenuous.
“This is cause for alarm for any communities where fracking is taking place. Our families shouldn’t pay the price for the fossil fuel industry’s recklessness.”
