Phoenix, AZ - Donald Trump’s EPA Administrator, Scott Pruitt, was in Arizona today to speak about his efforts to roll back the historic Clean Power Plan (CPP) - the United States’ first direct effort to avoid the catastrophic consequences of unchecked climate change. Pruitt’s decision to target the CPP is in line with his continued efforts to scrap major clean air and water protections against dangerous fossil fuel pollution, putting the health of thousands of communities across America at risk.

In response,  Sandy Bahr, Chapter Director of Sierra Club’s Grand Canyon Chapter, released the following statement:

“Scott Pruitt’s decision to come to Arizona and brag about trying to repeal the Clean Power Plan (CPP) is an insult to the Grand Canyon state, and a threat to our health and our clean energy economy. The Clean Power Plan will encourage massive growth in Arizona’s solar industry, help clean up its air and water, and protect residents from the worst effects of pollution and climate change.

“Reports about how Pruitt is attempting to repeal the Clean Power Plan are equally distressing. ‘Cooking the books’ by excluding the benefits this plan has for our health and our economy is flagrantly dishonest and an obstacle to the public’s right to a real discourse about the policy itself. Pruitt is once again proving that he was one of the worst possible choices for EPA Administrator, and we are ready to fight his efforts to roll back our hard-fought progress.”
