Tuesday 8/8: Intertribal Coalition to Come Together in Lincoln For Historic Stand Against Keystone XL

Lincoln, NE -- The Intertribal Coalition of Nebraska and the Ponca Nation of Oklahoma will come together in Lincoln on Tuesday to take a historic stand against the construction of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. The five sovereign nations in Nebraska will sign a Treaty opposing the pipeline and tar sands expansion.

After the signing in Nebraska on August 8th, over 150 Tribes in the US and Canada will have signed the Treaty Alliance Against Tar Sands Expansion, including the Nations all along the KXL route in Alberta, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

The signing event will occur amid the weeklong public hearing on the proposed Keystone XL pipeline before the Nebraska Public Service Commission, which is expected to make a final decision on the pipeline permit by the end of the year.

Following the declaration signing, the Chairmen of the Intertribal Coalition of Nebraska and other invited speakers will address the press and guests, followed by lunch, and then a Prayer Walk to the State Capitol of Nebraska.
