In response to Hurricane Harvey, Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter Director Reggie James released the following statement:
“Our hearts are with the people across Texas and the Gulf Coast who continue to be affected by this horrific disaster and with the first responders who are working tirelessly to help those in need. The dark clouds hang not only over our skies, but over our hearts and minds. Our community is losing loved ones, many will be forced to rebuild their homes, and they and others are having the sense of home ripped away. The damage and heartbreak that continues to be caused by this hurricane will be found in the days, weeks, months, and years to come, but it will not break the bonds of our community. Almost immediately after the storm struck, the country witnessed people helping strangers to safety, helping them find a warm meal, and helping them find a sense of peace in the wake of a disaster. This is who we are as Texans and who we are as Americans, and it’s why we will recover.”
