Washington, DC -- Today, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt spoke on Donald Trump’s decision to pull America out of the Paris Climate Agreement.

In response, Sierra Club Global Climate Policy Director John Coequyt released the following statement:

“The firestorm of criticism about Trump’s historic mistake to pull out of the Paris Agreement is coming from at home and abroad, and Scott Pruitt is clearly scrambling to explain the unexplainable. Pruitt’s incoherent distortions of reality offer no good reasons why the Trump Administration would turn its back on the vast majorities of the public that support the Paris Agreement because there are no good reasons. Pruitt is learning that the hard way.

“When the Paris Agreement passed, the Sierra Club called it a ‘turning point for humanity’ because of the progress it would make in tackling the climate crisis. Now, Pruitt and Trump are complicit in endangering our families and our future by making this historic mistake just to boost the profits of a few corporate polluters. ”
