WASHINGTON, DC -- Today the Sierra Club announced Lena Moffitt as the new director of the organization’s Our Wild America campaign. The campaign will continue to build on the organization’s 125-year history of protecting natural resources and public lands by organizing grassroots activists to protect special places from fossil fuel extraction, advocating for responsible wildlife and lands management, and working to connect people across the country with the great outdoors.
“I’m excited to engage with the groundswell of activism to protect families, wildlife, and outdoor spaces taking place in response to the incredible threats posed right now,” said Moffitt. “The Sierra Club is dedicated to broadening the tent of advocates engaged in protecting our natural world as we work to inspire a new generation of environmentalists.”
Moffitt has been working to protect the environment for over a decade in California, New Mexico, and Washington, D.C. She most recently served as the director of the Sierra Club’s Beyond Dirty Fuels campaign, where she focused on protecting our climate, communities and special places from fossil fuel development.
Moffitt holds a master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management from the Donald Bren School of the Environment at UC Santa Barbara.
“Over the past decade, Lena has helped build a diverse national movement committed to protecting communities and the natural world from climate change,” said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune. “I’m pleased to welcome her, and her leadership in rooting our work in justice and equity, at this crucial time for people, places, and wildlife across the country.”
