Albany, NY -- Today, Governor Cuomo announced $3 million in funding for municipalities and electricity cooperatives to purchase electric vehicles for their municipal fleets. The funding is part of the New York Power Authority’s Municipal Electric-Drive Vehicle Program, which provides financial assistance for the purchase of electric vehicles and hybrids to facilitate the replacement of fossil fuel-powered vehicles.
In response, Sierra Club New York Electric Vehicles Initiative organizer Kathleen Fisher released the following statement:
"The Sierra Club commends Governor Cuomo’s continued efforts to increase visibility of and accessibility to electric vehicles, which will help reach New York’s important climate action commitments while quickening our transition to a 21st-century clean transportation system. With the progress New York has already made toward increasing accessibility to electric vehicles and with today’s important commitment to further increase the number of electric vehicles in government fleets in cities big and small, New York is tackling the climate crisis while improving air quality for its residents statewide.”
