Las Vegas, NV-- On Saturday, the Sierra Club and several allies will host a press conference and rally urging the Trump Administration to maintain protections on Nevada’s National Monuments and our iconic public lands-- places that are currently under attack by the administration. The event will feature North Las Vegas City Councilman Isaac Barron, Former Las Vegas Band of Paiute Councilwoman Fawn Douglas, and Christian Gerlach of the Sierra Club. Special places like Nevada’s Basin & Range and Gold Butte are jewels of our western public lands that protect the living history of first indigenous inhabitants. They also generate outdoor recreation tourism and revenue, benefiting local communities.
This event is in unison with others around the country prior to Secretary Zinke’s upcoming national monument status recommendations, which are set to be released within the next week. Any changes to their designation status would put two of Nevada’s national monuments at risk of drilling and development.
