Washington, D.C. -- Today, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted Williams Transco the right to begin construction on the fracked gas Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline despite a faulty water review and a piecemeal permitting process. FERC’s review lacked public oversight and is currently evading judicial review, while the Wolf administration’s review of the project downplayed known impacts to water quality that other states took action on.

In response, Sierra Club Pennsylvania Chapter Director Joanne Kilgour released the following statement:

“FERC has clearly capitalized on the Wolf administration’s craven review of this dirty and dangerous project. The fracked gas Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline will threaten our water and our communities, but rather than fulfilling their duties and conducting the legally required comprehensive environmental review, the Wolf administration and FERC have turned a blind eye to Pennsylvanians’ health and safety to rush this project through. The people of the Commonwealth will not sit back as this project moves forward. They will continue to fight and demand that their rights and the legally required process be upheld.”
