DETROIT, MI - Donald Trump announced today that he will meet with the Mayor of Flint, Michigan after pledging to cut the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget by historic levels.
In response, Gail Philbin, Director of the Michigan Chapter of Sierra Club, released the following statement:
"The irony of Donald Trump meeting with the Mayor of Flint after he pledged to make historic cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to protect clean water is reminiscent of an absurd episode of the Twilight Zone. Not only does he deal in alternate facts, but he apparently lives in an alternate universe.
“The people of Flint and people across the country need a strong EPA that develops and enforces science-based clean water protections, while the Trump Administration has made very clear it plans to let polluters make their own rules. Today's photo op is as hollow as his promises to protect our air and water, and we’ll continue to do everything we can to hold his administration accountable to the laws created to protect our families from polluters.”
