Today the Austin Chronicle named Dave Cortez "Best Environmental Activist" in a "Best of Austin" edition for his work as "the heart and soul of Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign in Central Texas."
Cortez, in black (left, above), oversees the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter's Alliance Program, organizes with Moody for El Paso, and works with Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association Austin (TREIA), and EcoNetwork. TREIA, a statewide organization of "companies and individuals involved in solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and hydroelectric energy products and/or services", engages in awareness raising and other advocacy work for "clean energy, energy security and independence and for Texas jobs." Austin EcoNetwork aids in ensuring "Austinites lead the way toward a healthy, sustainable community and planet."
