Objectives
This is the time for grassroots organizing. We, the citizens of Philadelphia, need to give our leaders the political strength to do the right thing - not the fastest, not the cheapest, not the status quo. Invest in the future. Invest in clean energy jobs. Invest in environmental justice.
The objectives of the Philadelphia is Ready For 100% Renewable Energy team are:
-
Educate the public and elected officials about the need, the responsibility and the achievability of 100% Renewables
-
Connect with other groups, institutions, businesses and residents that are on the same course
-
Start the conversation about: making a pledge, making a plan to achieve 100% Renewables
-
Build the momentum: neighborhood support leads to community-wide support, which leads to a citywide shift in the direction of clean energy
Campaign Principles
RF100 is committed to applying the Jimenez Principles of Democratic Organizing in our work.
-
Our energy systems need to be rooted in equity, democracy, and local agency.
-
We are a solutions campaign.
-
Anyone can join us; everyone can contribute.
-
We prioritize relationships.
-
We prioritize leadership from the local community.
-
We recognize and acknowledge historical inequality in the work of Sierra Club, and work toward equity.
-
How we get there is as important as getting there.

Who is Philly Ready for 100?
Philly Ready for 100 is currently a small, but mighty group of core volunteers (not all pictured in the photo above), with an email/online network of many more.
Volunteers are based in the Philly area and are committed to moving the city of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection to 100% clean, renewable energy for all.
What’s Next?
Currently, we are focused on Team Building and Movement Building.
-
We are planning an online Recruitment Event for Fall 2020.
-
We are researching local community organizations to partner with on a project.
As the wise and inspiring Mubarak Lawrence stated- SPREAD THE WORD. Educate others about what renewable means, make the little daily actions in your lifestyle to save energy, and be a part of the change. Remember the post-its! Little changes in behavior can lead to big impacts.
Philadelphia City Council Passes RF100 Resolution on 9/26/19 !!!
Congratulations to the Ready For 100/Philly team and all the volunteers that contributed to this 2 year journey. And thanks to Councilwoman Sanchez who was instrumental in helping us find the political will and craft language in the resolution that ultimately garnered 9 cosponsors and passed with a unanimous vote on Sep 26.
The resolution can be found here - Ready for 100 resolution, bill 190728
What's Next? On Wed, Oct 2, at the Environment Committee Meeting, we will put these goals in context with other energy related measures and set the stage for the real work of engaging with stakeholders to craft meaningul legislation and community action that will help us transition to 100% renewable energy As Soon As Possible.
Until we meet, here are some documents we've crafted...
-
First, commit to a goal of 100% renewable energy with Philly's Ready for 100 resolution
-
Second, consider an action plan to get to the goal specified in the resolution

For over a century, the oil refinery in South Philadelphia quietly poisoned generations of residents, terrorized neighborhoods with explosions, and extracted wealth from the city.
I stand with Philadelphia residents in demanding that the future of the refinery land reverse the legacy of racism and extraction from day one and prioritize investment and benefits to surrounding neighborhoods. This means:
