The Chapter Outings Team supports 5000+ Outings Volunteers in the delivery of Chapter Outings within Local Outing groups & Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) groups as well as lead seasonal volunteer programming at the Yosemite Conservation Heritage Center (YCHC).

About Us

Our team is focused on providing support to outings chairs and leaders to actualize Healthy Outings Programs. We support the recruitment and stewardship of volunteers, partners and participants to effectively create equitable and inclusive outings groups and outings.

Local Outings

More than 5,000 Sierra Club Local Outings volunteers lead a range of outings that are as diverse as their interests from picnics, day hikes, peak scrambles, community building, bicycling, skiing, paddling, bird-watching, conservation-oriented activities, and forays into the remaining natural areas of our major cities.

Our 45 volunteer-run ICO groups nationwide conduct more than 900 outings for approximately 14,000 participants each year.

Inspiring Connections Outdoors

Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) is a Chapter Outings program of Sierra Club. Volunteer run ICO groups contribute to the creation of outdoor equity by connecting youth with limited access to the outdoors through outings that promote wellness, connection & leadership.

The YCHC is a seasonal building, open May through September, Wednesday - Sunday, 10 am - 4 pm.

Yosemite Conservation Heritage Center

For over 100 years, The Yosemite Conservation Heritage Center (YCHC) has been the Sierra Club’s home in Yosemite National Park. Since 1904, a curator and a team of volunteers have welcomed thousands of visitors into Yosemite Valley, sharing the history of the building, Sierra Club’s mission, and orienting visitors to the park.
