Hernaliz Vazquez Torres is a 28-year-old environmental activist from the Guayama municipality of Puerto Rico. In 2019 she organized 16 youth climate strikes in Puerto Rico. In May 2020, she earned a master's degree in environmental planning at the Ana G. Méndez University School of Environmental Affairs, with a thesis on the development plan of the Cataño Maritime Front as an ecotourism strategy for sustainable socioeconomic development. Today she is an organizer with Sierra Club de Puerto Rico, where she has been instrumetal in the fight to stop importing coal for power by 2020.
