Hike to see beautiful Bearwallow Mountain views!
Join the WNC Sierra Club for a moderate hike that ascends 587 feet over 1.2 miles to the majestic summit of Bearwallow Mountain near Gerton, NC. It’s a 2.4-mile out-and-back hike to the summit. There are majestic views in all directions from this 4,236-foot peak, where we will lounge and have lunch. There will be an option for hikers to relax on the summit or hike a bit further towards Wildcat Rock.
Be sure to bring lunch, at least a liter of water, and rain gear (just in case). We will learn a bit about the forest here, the ranges in the surrounding views, as well as the Hickory Nut Gorge area (this hike is part of a larger trail system in the area).
Hikers will rendezvous at the 153 Smokey Park Highway Shopping Center in the parking area behind Chick-Fil-A at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22 and sort out carpooling for those who want to carpool. We should be at the trail by 10 a.m. and will finish the hike by 2 p.m. and then return to Asheville.
