High Falls-Triple Falls-Hooker Falls Tour - Monday, June 10

Hike in beautiful DuPont State Recreational Forest to see three waterfalls!

We will rendezvous at 153 Smokey Park Highway Shopping Center behind Chick-Fil-A at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10, and sort out carpooling for those who want to carpool. We will then drive towards Brevard to the Visitor Center at DuPont State Recreational Forest to start our hike. The drive takes about 45 minutes. We will aim to start the hike around 10:30 a.m.

The moderate loop trail, with an out and back to Hooker Falls, will take us 4.2 miles along a couple of streams. This is an excellent trail for touring the forest's most stunning waterfalls, High Falls and Triple Falls, along with a visit to smaller Hooker Falls, which is great place to get your feet wet. The route features unique rock structures, rolling hills, and photographic backdrops that nature photographers will love. We should be back to our cars by 2-2:30 p.m.

This 4.2-mile hike will take about 3-4 hours to complete at a moderate pace, with stops to enjoy the scenery and have lunch. The trail is well-maintained with an elevation gain of about 600 feet. Along the way we will learn a bit about the history, ecology, geology, and of DuPont along with a bit about water quality. Be sure to bring snacks or lunch, and a liter or two of water. Rain gear is always a good idea regardless of the forecast.

If anyone is experiencing COVID symptoms, is still in quarantine after testing positive for COVID, is feeling sick, and/or has a fever, they should not attend this outing. Families are welcome! Any children should be accompanied and supervised by parents or other adult family members.
