Hike a beautiful loop to a waterfall high in the Blue Ridge!
This moderate loop trail will take us 3 miles through beautiful Graveyard Fields with open areas, woods, a stream and a waterfall. At a moderate pace, it will be about a three-hour hike plus some time for lunch.
The trail is well-maintained, with an elevation gain of only 154 feet to get to the falls. We will learn a bit about the ecology of these higher elevation meadows as well as some history of the area. We will spend about 30 minutes at the Falls where folks can eat a snack or lunch.
Be sure to bring snacks or lunch as well as plenty of water. Always be sure to include rain gear!! We will return at an easy pace back to the parking area by around 2-2:30 p.m.
We will rendezvous at 151 Smokey Park Highway in the parking area behind Chick-Fil-A at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, and then drive up the Blue Ridge parkway for about an hour to the parking lot for Graveyard Fields. Folks who want to carpool can sort it out there and then we will drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway. We will aim to start the hike around 10:30 a.m.
