Hike in beautiful DuPont State Recreational Forest to see two stunning waterfalls!
We will rendezvous at Carrier Park at 220 Amboy Road at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, and then drive towards Brevard to the Visitor Center at Dupont State Recreational Forest to start our hike. The drive takes 45 minutes, more or less. We will aim to start the hike around 10:30 a.m. and to be back to our cars by 1-1:30 p.m.
The moderate loop trail will take us 3.3 miles along a couple of streams. This is an excellent trail for touring DuPont State Forest's most stunning waterfalls: High Falls and Triple Falls. The route features unique rock structures, rolling hills, and photographic backdrops that nature photographers will love.
At a moderate pace, with stops to enjoy the scenery and have lunch, it will take 2-3 hours to complete the loop. The trail is well-maintained with an elevation gain of 511 feet. Along the way we will learn a bit about the history, ecology, geology, and of Dupont along with a bit about water quality. Be sure to bring snacks or lunch, and a liter or two of water. Rain gear is always a good idea regardless of the forecast.
If anyone is experiencing COVID symptoms, is still in quarantine after testing positive for COVID, is feeling sick, and/or has a fever, they should not attend this outing. Families are welcome! Any children should be accompanied and supervised by parents or other adult family members. Dogs will not be allowed on this hike.
