Hike along a beautiful stream to twin waterfalls which converge at the base.
We rendezvous in Asheville at a location TBA at 9:00 am on Wednesday August 30th and then drive towards Brevard and then into Pisgah National Forest to the Twin Falls trailhead. The drive takes 45 minutes, more or less. We will aim to start the hike around 10:30am. The moderate out and back trail will take us 2.0 miles along Avery creek through beautiful woods and we will pass two other waterfalls before reaching Twin Falls!! We will have lunch with a view of the two falls that converge at the base to form Avery Creek and then hike back the 2.0 miles to the parking area.
At a moderate pace it will be about a 3 hour hike to the twin falls and back, plus some time for lunch at the falls. The trail is well-maintained with an elevation gain of 500 feet as it slopes gently up to Twin Falls. Along the way we will learn a bit about the history, ecology, geology, and current environmental issues of Pisgah National Forest. Be sure to bring snacks or lunch, and a liter or two of water. Rain gear is always a good idea regardless of the forecast. We will return at an easy pace back to the parking area by around 2:30 - 3:00.
