WNC Sierra Club Monthly Program - May 3rd at 7pm "The New Pisgah & Nantahala National Forest Plan”

Join us in person or via Zoom for a presentation on the newly released revised Plan for the Pisgah and Nantahala National forests. Conservation groups, including the Sierra Club, have been participating in the planning process for almost a decade. Representatives from the NC Chapter of the Sierra Club, MountainTrue, and the Southern Environmental Law Center will discuss the highlights of the new Plan, including how it falls short in protecting critical resources on the forests.

Presenters will include David Reid, NC Sierra Club, Josh Kelly, MountainTrue, and Sam Evans, Southern Environmental Law Center.

The meeting is the first Western NC Sierra Club program held in person since COVID, and will be held in Room at UNCA's Reuter Center/Ollie in the Manheimer Room (102) at 7pm. The Reuter Center is on the campus of UNCA, 1 University Heights, Asheville, NC 28804. It will also be available via Zoom. To register for the Zoom meeting register in advance at the following link:

David Reid has been active as a volunteer in National Forest Issues in NC for the Sierra Club for many years, and is a past NC Chapter Chair. He currently serves as NC Sierra Club's National Forests Issue Chair.

Josh Kelly is Public Lands Field Biologist with MountainTrue. At MountainTrue, Josh monitors logging and development issues on public land and provides site-specific scientific information to promote ecological restoration and oppose ecologically-damaging management.

Sam Evans is Senior Attorney and Leader of the National Forests and Parks Program for the Southern Environmental Law Center. A fixture in the Asheville office since 2011, Sam supports and coordinates the work of SELC’s Forest Team and national forest policy advocacy. He also protects conservation values affected by U.S. Forest Service decision-making in the Nantahala, Pisgah, and Cherokee National Forests.
