"Changing Feathers and Changing Seasons - How bird wintering and migration patterns are changing in western North Carolina"

REGISTER

Simon Thompson, an international expert on birding, will compare the behaviors of birds that spend the colder months around Western North Carolina with birds which are now spending the winter further north due to increasingly warmer temps.

Simon will talk about different types of bird migration that brings birds down to our area in the winter months. He says our area is not getting the consistently cold winters it once did, and this is affecting how and where birds spend the winter. Lake areas remain open for longer periods of time and waterfowl seem to be staying further north unless serious weather sets in around the Great Lakes.

He will show brightly colored photographs of breeding birds coming through western North Carolina in the spring,

along with the winter plumage of birds that stay here in the winter.  This will be a great event for serious birders and hikers who just want to learn the names of the birds they see on their walks. Through his organization, Ventures Birding Tours, Simon has led birding expeditions across several continents.
