Bill Jacobs is the author of "Whence These Special Places? The Geology of Cashiers, Highlands & Panthertown Valley," a book that explains the geological processes of more than 500 million years that formed the complex geology of the southern Blue Ridge mountains.
His presentation explains the dramatic upheavals that created the Blue Ridge as a whole, and looks individually at many notable waterfalls and mountains throughout our area, generously illustrated. For this program, he discusses locations across SW North Carolina, including such iconic features as Looking Glass Rock and Falls, Shining Rock, Devil's Courthouse, Craggy Pinnacle, and Pearson's and Little Bearwallow Falls, as well as several unique features on the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau (especially in Panthertown Valley)
