Monthly Meeting: Wednesday, April 27, 2016 6:30 p.m., Mahlon Adams Pavilion at Freedom Park
Mike Dorcas is unable to present his program on Burmese Pythons. We will try to reschedule, but please join us for Beth Henry's talk on native plants.
Beth Henry is a retired lawyer who grows native plants on almost 2 acres in Plaza-Midwood. Beth will discuss the many advantages of “going native,” emphasizing the joys of welcoming creatures that depend on the native plants with which they evolved. Did you know that 96% of terrestrial birds in North America feed caterpillars to their young, and that our native oaks host about 500 different species of caterpillars? So if you love birds, plant an oak! Beth will also discuss many other native trees and shrubs and the butterflies, moths, and birds they support, sharing tips for making your yard an oasis for non-human animals and a fun, interesting place for human animals.
The evening begins with pizza at 6:30 and the program starts at 7:00. Free and open to the public.
