Outings & Meetings

As we gradually get the Blue Ridge Group active again we are starting to have meetings featuring guest speakers. At the start these will be held on the fourth Tuesday in odd-numbered months but we to get to a point where we have them monthly if there is enough interest.

IMPORTANT NEWS - We have completed the Sierra Club requirements necessary to begin outings. Stay tuned for information about our first hike in 25 years.

We hope to see you all at either our meetings or our outings in the coming months.

Join us September 24 for "Grandfather Mountain Beyond Bears and Bridges”

Jesse Pope, President and Executive Director of the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation, will present our program at our next meeting on September 24. Jesse started his career at Grandfather Mountain in 2002. Before becoming executive director in 2015, he served as assistant vice president and director of education and natural resources. During his time at Grandfather Mountain he also worked as a seasonal trail ranger and on the animal habitats staff before launching the park’s naturalist program, which he led for six years.

The meeting begins at 6:30 PM. People who wish to attend should arrive at the Grandfather Mountain gate between 6:00 and 6:30pm.  Let the entrance staff know that you are attending the Sierra Club meeting.  Please note that regular hours for Grandfather Mountain end at 6pm.  Program attendees will not be charged the usual admission fee. The meeting will be at the Wilson Center, in the Classroom in the Clouds facility (not the auditorium). People attending the meeting should depart immediately after the meeting.
