Sierra Club Endorses Linda Greenstein in 14th District Race

The Sierra Club New Jersey Chapter is proud to announce its endorsement of Linda Greenstein for State Senator in New Jersey's 14th Legislative District.

Assemblywoman Greenstein is an environmental champion. She has a solid record with many major accomplishments. Over the years, Greenstein has been recognized by the Sierra Club as a true leader on environmental issues.

Greenstein has been a real fighter for both the people of New Jersey and the environment. She has promoted public transportation, opposed sprawl, worked to preserve open space and farmland, and has protected communities against air pollution and toxins.

"She has been on the front line identifying contamination and sponsoring legislation to protect school children from toxic dumping," said Terry Stimpfel, Chair of New Jersey Sierra Club's Central Group, which includes much of the 14th District. "Linda Greenstein has worked to promote energy efficiency, energy conservation and alternative energy sources that will benefit the people of New Jersey and the environment."

Greenstein has fought to clean up toxic places in New Jersey, like Mercer Rubber and WR Grace in Hamilton, while taking a lead in sponsoring legislation that protects the environment and public health. She has supported legislation eliminating the statue of limitations for people or companies that violate environmental laws.

"Linda Greenstein fights for the people of the 14th District when it comes to the environment," NJ Sierra Club Director Jeff Tittel said. "She's willing to stand up to her own party when it comes to protecting all of us. As a legislator, Linda Greenstein has shown real courage and conviction."

Greenstein stood up as a leader against bills like fast track and site remediation while pushing for stronger enforcement against polluters. She is a leader in working towards green jobs, which help to grow our economy while protecting the environment.

She has been a champion on the issues that matter most to the people of New Jersey. Greenstein has also dealt with issues of international significance.

"I was one of the original prime sponsors of the Global Warming Response Act to attack global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and participating in regional and interstate initiatives," Greenstein said. New Jersey's Global Warming Response Act is considered one of the strongest in the country.

Greenstein currently serves as the chairwoman of the Assembly Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Health and Human Services Committee and Local Government Committee. As committee chair, she has held oversight hearings on toxic pollution and the protection of public health as well as passing key legislation.

"This November, the choice is clear. We can have champion of the environment and the people or someone beholden to special interests and polluters," Tittel said.

The Sierra Club is the nation's oldest and largest environmental group with more than 750,000 members, with some 20,000 of them here in New Jersey.
