Stop the Pipe!
The Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Company (Transco) is proposing the Northeast Supply Link Project, which includes installing a 6.8 mile 42 inch pipeline through Clinton, Franklin, and Union Twps. This pipeline would cut through some of the most sensitive and scenic lands in New Jersey, impacting critical habitat, water supplies, public health and safety, and creating another scar through the Highlands. Gas in the pipeline would come from the Marcellus Shale, encouraging the expansion of the dangerous natural gas drilling technique of hydraulic fracturing or fracking. Fracking threatens our water supply with hundreds of toxic chemicals and major water withdrawals as each well requires between 2 to 9 million gallons of water. The project is being driven by gas drillers as demand for natural gas remains flat.
