Inflation Reduction Act Delivers Over $150 Million in Solar for All Funds for New Jersey

Trenton, NJ Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that New Jersey was awarded $156,120,000 in funding through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund’s Solar For All program. The competition, created by President Biden’s landmark Inflation Reduction Act, seeks to enable low-income and disadvantaged households across America to access the benefits of low-cost, clean solar energy—benefits that include home energy savings, energy resilience, improved air quality, wealth building, and quality jobs.

The climate law authorized $7 billion in funding for the program, but by last year’s deadline for applications, EPA had received requests totaling more than $38 billion. A complete list of recipients of Solar For All awards can be found here

Anjuli Ramos-Busot, Director of the NJ Sierra Club, made the following statement:

“The NJ Sierra Club is pleased to see federal funding coming to increase accessibility to solar power in our state. We need an urgent and just transition to clean energy now in order to mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis without leaving anyone behind.

“New Jersey is situated between major east coast cities like New York and Philadelphia where there is a huge demand for clean energy for our regional grid. The funding made available to New Jersey today through the EPA’s Solar for All Program will directly help us power our communities and regional grid with renewable, clean energy in the midst of such demand.

We thank the EPA and BPU for taking this step in making distributed solar more accessible to New Jerseyans. We must continue to ensure that our clean energy transition is equitable and available to all regardless of zip-code or income.”
