KASHWICK ENDORSED BY SIERRA CLUB FOR RE-ELECTION TO CLINTON TOWN COUNCIL

The New Jersey Sierra Club is pleased to announce its endorsement of John Kashwick for re-election to the Council in the Town of Clinton.

Kashwick, whom the NJ Chapter of the Sierra Club previously endorsed, successfully won and is now completing a partial term on the town council.  He is now running for re-election this year to a full three-year term.

Kashwick, a long-time volunteer with the Sierra Club and, previously a Councilman in the Borough of Closter for nine years, has made conservation and quality of life issues a main focus of his tenure.

In his four months on the Clinton Town Council, Kashwick has re-established the Green Team. He applied and received a $25,000 grant to plant trees.  In addition, Kashwick is working with the Green Team to promote better stewardship of town’s open spaces, energy-efficient/wildlife friendly lighting, and more pedestrian-safe streets.

Kashwick, who has a degree in Environmental Management, first became involved with the Sierra Club in the effort to successfully preserve the Emerson Woods in Bergen County more than 20 years ago. In his tenure on Closter Council, he authored successful grants of more than $500,000 to acquire open space and successfully advocated for a conservation zone. More recently, he has collaborated with other local groups fighting warehouse developments in Warren County and preserving open space: “With the development pressures facing Clinton, Kashwick is the right person to have on Council at this time,” said Karen Becker, Political Committee Chair for the Sierra Club New Jersey Chapter. “He has a proven record and commitment to land preservation.”

“John has the knowledge, experience, and passion for making Clinton a greener place to live,” said Celeste Martin, Vice Chair, Sierra Club Hunterdon Warren Group

As a passionate defender of our natural environment, Kashwick asserts:  “I’m deeply honored to receive the Sierra Club’s endorsement for my re-election to Clinton Town Council. For more than two decades, I have made conservation, clean water, and clean air part of my mission in life and will continue to do so on Clinton Town Council.”
