NJ Sierra Club Chapter Director Attends Communities in Action: Building a Better NJ at the White House

Washington D.C. - This Wednesday, our New Jersey Sierra Club Director, Anjuli Ramos-Busot, attended “Communities in Action: Building a Better NJ” at the White House. Stakeholders and organizations from across New Jersey were invited, ranging in specializations in affordable housing, healthcare, social justice and environment, in addition to the NJ Urban Mayors to discuss how Biden Administration programs like the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) have translated into investments in New Jersey communities. Speakers included Special Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor to the Counselor to the President John McCarthy, Domestic Policy Advisor Ambassador Susan Rice, Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves, Deputy Secretary of Transportation Polly Trottenberg, and Senior Advisor to President Biden Gene Sperling.

The New Jersey chapter was invited to share how we have led on implementing and educating about these federal programs at the state and local levels. Late last year, we hosted roundtables and Q&A’s with members of NJ’s Congregational Delegation, Congresswoman Mikkie Sherrill, Congressman Andy Kim, and former Congressman Tom Malinowski and experts from national Sierra Club on how residents and individuals in NJ can capitalize on IRA and the IIJA tax rebates and programs to advance home and building electrification and electric vehicles. The New Jersey chapter has also worked tirelessly to advance clean energy programs put forth by the Biden Administration such as offshore wind and solar, which would create thousands of made-in-America, family-sustaining jobs and opportunities for New Jerseyans.

Our chapter looks forward to continuing partnering with the Biden-Harris Administration to bring more opportunity and resources directly back to NJ communities and our environment.

“It was an honor to represent the New Jersey Chapter of the Sierra Club at the White House this week alongside so many community leaders who are working everyday for a better future for all New Jerseyans. The Biden-Harris Administration has made some of the most significant climate and environmental investments to date, and it was great to hear from White House officials about the specific programs and dollars that New Jersey has and will continue to receive from the ARP, IRA, and IIJA. We hope to continue to bring awareness to these programs that help us move forward with clean energy and improve our air and water quality while translating into tangible family sustaining job opportunities for New Jersey,” said Anjuli Ramos-Busot, Director of the NJ Sierra Club.
