TRENTON, NJ – Today, Senator Bob Smith announced the formation of the Forest Stewardship Task Force. The purpose of the task force will be to study and identify ways in which the State can best protect and manage its forests in order to fight climate change, prevent forest fires, improve ecosystems, and protect soil and water quality, among other things.
The task force will be led by the following four co-chairs: Anjuli Ramos-Busot, Sierra Club NJ; Tom Gilbert, NJ Conservation Association; Andrew Bennet, NJ Forestry Association; and Eileen Murphy, NJ Audubon.
“It is an honor to be named co-chair of the Forest Stewardship Task Force. Our forests provide critical wildlife habitat and help protect our drinking water. But they are more than that - they are places to hike and celebrate nature, cultural heritage for Indigenous communities, and a big part of the solution to climate change,” said Anjuli Ramos-Busot, New Jersey Chapter Director, Sierra Club. “We thank Senator Smith for creating this task force to move forward the much needed protection and management of our NJ forests..”
Individuals interested in participating on, or contributing to, the task force should reach out to NJForestTaskForce@gmail.com.
