Today, the Drinking Water Quality Institute (DWQI) held a meeting to discuss previous DWQI MCL Recommendations on 1,4-Dioxane. During the meeting, the DWQI voted unanimously to recommend a Maximum Contaminant Limit (MCL) of 0.33 mg/L for 1,4-Dioxane to the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
“The DWQI today voted unanimously to recommend the strongest drinking water standards in the nation for 1,4-Dioxane. This will go a long way toward ensuring that we protect public health and safety when it comes to this carcinogenic substance. Now the DEP needs to move ahead with rulemaking to remove this extremely toxic compound from our drinking water,” said Taylor McFarland, Acting Director, Sierra Club New Jersey Chapter.
