The Executive Committee of the Trail of Tears Group is asking that Chapter Executive Committee disband the group and merge it into one or perhaps two adjacent larger groups. Before voting on the request at its meeting on January 24, 2010 in Columbia, the Chapter ExCom must notify the membership and ask for comments. This article constitutes that notice.
The rationale for the request is that because of the small number of members in the Trail of Tears area and the large area it covers, participation in Group activities has been very low. Also, several of the people in leadership positions are planning on leaving the area in the near future, and no one else has expressed interest in assuming leadership. Therefore, we felt that members would be better served by a move into a larger and more active group, the Eastern Missouri Group in particular.
