Today the Sierra Club North Star Chapter announced its endorsement of Tim Walz for Governor and Peggy Flanagan for Lieutenant Governor.
“U.S. Representative Tim Walz has stood up to protect our environment in Congress, and earned the Sierra Club’s endorsement four times during his tenure representing the first Congressional District. Rep. Walz is the best choice to lead the state as Minnesota’s next Governor -- the position with ultimate executive authority for protecting our air, water, lands and climate today and for future generations of Minnesotans,” said Dana Hallstrom, co-chair of the Chapter’s Political Committee. “Representative Peggy Flanagan has also been a strong advocate for environmental issues during her time in the Minnesota House, has been previously endorsed by the Sierra Club, and received a Legislative Leadership Award from the North Star Chapter in 2017. We are confident that she will be a powerful leader for the environment and for environmental justice as our next Lieutenant Governor.”
“Jeff Johnson, on the other hand, has a dismal, documented record of anti-environment votes from his time in the state House of Representatives. A Johnson administration would be a disaster for all who share Minnesota’s environmental values -- from addressing climate change, to building a 21st-century transportation system and protecting clean air and water for all our communities,” said Hallstrom. “The Walz Flanagan ticket has run a positive, inclusive campaign, and we look forward to working hard with them and with partners across Minnesota to win on November 6.”
