Our fight to protect Minnesota’s environment and communities has entered a new and critical phase. The re-election of Donald Trump will mean renewed attacks on protections for our climate, environment, and health. We expect the new administration to double down on efforts to dismantle crucial environmental regulations.
This is where we need you. In the months ahead, our effectiveness will depend on the support of dedicated volunteers, members, donors. Climate and environmental leadership at the state level will be more important than ever.
In the last two years we have won important steps towards making our state a model for climate action and reverse environmental injustices. And on November 5, Minnesotans showed up and raised our voices for the environment. The Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund passed with an overwhelming majority, and together we elected strong environmental champions in key races. So while the state House is now under divided control, the people are on our side. We can limit Trump's impact by:
- Enacting real climate solutions, from expanding solar energy and public transit, to preserving wetlands and forests.
- Blocking false climate actions – like carbon pipelines that facilitate more oil drilling; and ethanol expansion which increases emissions and pollutes our water.
- Urging state agencies to consistently prioritize people above polluters, through strong enforcement of environmental laws.
- Protecting clean water, from Lake Superior to the Boundary Waters to the Mississippi River, for generations to come.
- Fighting alongside allies to defend vulnerable communities, civil and human rights, and our democracy.
Many of us are feeling fear, worry and grief. We need to grieve. And we can channel our fear into action, and defend the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the outdoors we cherish. With your help, we will be a force of nature.
