Team Update - Clean Energy - October 2024

Clean Energy

The team is focusing on the Clean Heat Bill. Sierra Club  and many partner organizations are championing the bill, which would provide financial incentives for utility companies to reach net-zero gas emissions by 2050. Discussions with influential legislators have begun. More details will  come in the next few months.

The team has  started working on legislative priorities and have identified three to date:

  • Clean heat
  • Building performance standards
  • Funding for the East Phillips Rooftop Depot project

Since Sierra Club is  moving to a two-year agenda, it might make sense to add one or two priorities.

The September 24 meeting was the last to include staff member extraordinaire Patty O’Keefe. Patty has accepted an exciting position with Vote Solar, which is promoting innovations with rooftop solar and community solar gardens. Therefore, she will continue to be involved in the priorities that Sierra Club promotes. Patty will focus on projects in Minnesota and Michigan. She has done a wonderful job for the Clean Energy Team and multiple other projects and will be deeply missed, as a staff member and a friend to all. Good luck, Patty!
