Clean energy advocates, unions, Department of Commerce agree to a better, bolder clean energy plan with Xcel Energy

We are celebrating an important win for Minnesotans and the climate. Last week, Xcel Energy agreed to a settlement with clean energy advocates, labor unions, and the Department of Commerce that could set the utility on a path towards a cleaner, more resilient energy future. The settlement was filed with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, and we await the  Commission’s decision.

As compared to Xcel’s initial proposal, which included over 2,000 megawatts of fossil gas this settlement now puts more emphasis on wind, solar, and storage. This plan will have enormous impacts on the future of clean energy across our state and for Xcel Energy’s role in the necessary–and now state-mandated– transition to 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040. Stay tuned for more details.
