The Blue Line, the Greenway, the Riverview Corridor: all exciting transportation corridors the Land Use and Transportation team discussed this month.
As part of the ongoing push to extend the Midtown Greenway over the Mississippi River, the team reviewed the Minneapolis Park Board's Midtown Greenway Regional Trail Plan and explored ways to give input. They also reviewed updates to the METRO Blue Line Extension in North Minneapolis and considered how Sierra Club can advocate for the line going forward with appropriate measures to avoid gentrification and displacement along the corridor. Team members will speak at several public meetings on the Blue Line Extension, including one on Tuesday, July 23, from 10-noon at Brooklyn Park Library; see you there! Additionally, they discussed strategies for the Riverview Corridor Modern Streetcar project proposed for West 7th in Saint Paul, which aims to reduce traffic and car speeds along the corridor in favor of transit, biking, walking, and neighborhood accessibility.
And for one more road that needs reimagining, take the MnDOT survey on the reconstruction of University Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis. Bike lanes, safer pedestrian crossings, slower car speeds: we want it all!
