Last month, the Superior City Council voted to deny Minnesota Power’s requests to vacate city streets, rezone land, and amend Superior’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan to allow for the construction of their proposed gas plant, the Nemadji Trail Energy Center (NTEC). Celebration is warranted, but the work isn’t over yet.
NTEC still needs two big federal approvals to move forward: The Rural Utility Service is determining whether to grant Dairyland Power a loan for their portion of the plant. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing whether to grant a wetlands pollution permit, and they need to conduct a full Environmental Impact Statement for making any decisions.
Sign the petition to tell these federal agencies to protect communities, health, and climate: deny federal money for fossil fuels and do a thorough review of the proposed NTEC gas plant.
