Team Update - Beyond Oil - April 2024

Beyond Oil

On a snowy, sunny Friday afternoon in March, Sierra Club showed up to advocate for the shutdown of another Enbridge pipeline called Line 5:  a crude oil pipeline running through Wisconsin and Michigan. They hand-delivered over 8000 petitions to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in St. Paul; the very office that is considering permitting Enbridge’s Line 5.

Line 5 is a 70-year-old, 645 mile continuation of a crude oil pipeline that is still operating despite the Bad River Band having canceled its contract over 6 years ago. This is a clear violation of tribal sovereignty and a threat to the Bad River and its connected ecosystems.

The North Star Chapter’s Beyond Oil team has been working to protect water, to imagine a future without oil, and to demand the shut down of Line 5. Please join us. Sign up for the next Beyond Oil Team meeting here. To learn more, contact Chair Marcy Leussler.
